Mezzotint Workshop (7/25 10-5pm)

Mezzotint Workshop (7/25 10-5pm)

$175.00

Instructor: Haley Kean

July 27th

10-5pm

The material, preparation and process required in creating a mezzotint fosters a unique relationship with the practice and the plate. In harnessing that essence, students will be asked to bring in a square still-life image of a precious object of their choosing. For example: a shell, a roller skate, or a pillow. Images with a range of value and chiaroscuro are highly recommended. In this Introduction to Mezzotint workshop, students will learn how to pull highlights from a pre-rocked 3x3 inch copper plate, to create intimate portraits of precious objects that have personal significance. During the workshop, not only will students learn how to create a Mezzotint image, they will experience a demonstration for the preparation of a mezzotint plate, and will all be able to try using a mezzotint rocker. The small scale of the plate increases intimacy with the object, and allows for a less-intimidating first experience with mezzotint. Each student will leave with their Mezzotint plate, at least one print, and the experience of understanding the basics of mezzotint, including using mezzotint specific tools such as the rocker.
